Our Work

At NAACP Hayward, our mission is grounded in creating real solutions to the systemic issues that impact our community most. Through six core programs, we’re advancing justice, equity, education, opportunity, and safety for all.

Each program is a pillar of progress—targeted, strategic, and community-driven. Together, they reflect our commitment to building a future where every person has the tools and support to thrive.

Reboot Program

Support for Returning Citizens and Opioid Recovery
Launched in 2001, the Reboot Program has helped over 1,000 individuals with non-violent felony convictions through expungement assistance, job training, and scholarships.

Now, we’re expanding this trusted program to address the opioid crisis—especially its disproportionate impact on communities of color and vulnerable populations. Through education, prevention, recovery housing, and harm reduction services like naloxone distribution, the Reboot Program provides wraparound support and second chances for individuals and families.

We also offer youth-focused opioid education through school workshops and our Young Genius mentorship program.

Legal Redress

Civil Rights Protection and Advocacy
We help community members facing discrimination by investigating complaints, offering legal guidance, and connecting them with trusted resources. Our Legal Redress Program works to uphold civil rights and ensure justice is accessible to everyone.

Workforce Development

Career Preparation and Economic Empowerment
We equip residents with the tools to succeed in today’s job market—offering job readiness training, resume and interview support, mentorship, and connections to employment opportunities through local business partnerships.

Scholarship Program

Investing in the Next Generation
Our Carolee Perrich Scholarship awards up to $5,000 annually to local graduating high school seniors. We help remove financial barriers so students can pursue higher education, leadership, and community impact.

After-School Academic Support

Free Tutoring & Mentorship for Middle Schoolers
In partnership with Hayward Unified and Reality Mentor Inc., we offer tutoring in math, reading, science, and more at Winton and Bret Harte Middle Schools. Students gain confidence, close learning gaps, and grow with caring mentors.

Law Enforcement & Public Safety

Training, Accountability, and Representation
We work with local agencies to deliver community-informed training in cultural competency, implicit bias, communication, and civil rights. We also help community members pursue careers in law enforcement to increase trust, equity, and safety.
