Hayward South Alameda County NAACP knows that our strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly through the actions of our initiatives.

Back in 1950, our Non-Profit Organization realized that by working together we could overcome our challenges much more efficiently, and that is why we ultimately decided to launch Hayward South Alameda County NAACP.

Proudly serving Hayward, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Dublin, Union City, and Fremont.

Civic Engagement

Millions of Americans cast their ballots with the belief they can make a difference in this country.

We did our job. We worked and waited and the American People have spoken.

We pick our leaders – our leaders don’t pick their voters. In the midst of a pandemic that’s left millions of us grieving our loved ones and wondering how we’ll make ends meet, we turned out in record numbers across race and place to cast our votes for new leadership.

For the first time in this nation’s history, a Black woman is the Vice President of the United States.

When we come together, we come out stronger. And there is still work to be done.

Advocacy

Since 1941, the NAACP has been the premier civil rights advocacy entity on Capitol Hill. The NAACP was a leading force behind the enactment of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the 1965 Voting Rights Act, the 1968 Fair Housing Act, the 1991 Civil Rights Restoration Act and the 2002 Help America Vote Act, the most current reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act among countless others.

With the state of voting rights, police reform, and many other issues in flux, we work to constantly maintain active voices in how our government. approaches policies that affects us all.

Criminal Justice

The NAACP advocates for smarter, results-based criminal justice policies to keep our communities safe, including treatment for addiction and mental health problems, judicial discretion in sentencing, and an end to racial disparities at all levels of the system.

The United States is home to the world’s largest prison population. As “tough on crime” laws have put an unprecedented number of non-violent offenders behind bars in recent years, our neighborhoods feel no more secure.
